You’ve probably been told you should try to “stay calm” in your exams.

This session shows you how.

I’ll be running several free live group sessions in the run-up to exams.

Exams don’t just challenge what you know – they affect how your body responds, too.

Nerves aren’t there to stop you. They’re your body getting ready to react to something that feels important and uncertain.

When you think about exams, you might notice:

  • A tight feeling in your chest

  • A racing heart

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feeling overwhelmed

  • Your mind goes blank - which is not helpful in an exam!

There’s nothing wrong with you. This is your nervous system doing the job it is designed for – trying to keep you safe.

With the right tools, you can learn to use that energy to help you focus and do your best – rather than it working against you.

The good news is…

You can train your nervous system to help you feel calmer, safer and more in control.

People use techniques like this to prepare for things like sports competitions. So why not exams?

They can help you prepare your nervous system so you feel less nervous or overwhelmed. And when you feel calmer, you think more clearly – which is just what you need in an exam.

This session will show you how to:

  • Understand what’s happening in your body and brain when you get anxious

  • Discover why it happens and why it makes sense

  • Get clear on how you want to feel in the run up and during your exams

  • Learn emotional regulation tools you can use in the moment

  • Practice with Havening Techniques – a science-based approach that uses visualisation to prepare the nervous system

Come as you are.

You don’t need to prepare anything in advance.

What happens in the session?

Whether you feel anxious, a bit nervous, or even a bit tired or sleepy, you’re completely welcome.

We’ll spend about a relaxed hour together, in person or online.

During the session, we will:

  • Look at the science of the nervous system - I’ll share a simple slides (like these here) to make sense of how you feel

  • Talk about how your body responds to stress, because it’s different for everyone

  • Try simple techniques you can use to feel calmer, fast

  • Do a guided exercise using Havening Techniques to help your mind and body settle and get familiar with doing exams.

Afterwards, I’ll share a recording that you can use whenever you want, so you can make it a part of your revision plan.

Hi, I’m Beth

I help people understand how their brain and body respond to stress – and how to feel calmer and more confident in challenging situations.

I have a degree in zoology and have worked in sustainability for 25 years.

I also trained as a resilience coach and became certified in Havening Techniques because of the huge difference they made for me – including helping me overcome a deep fear of public speaking.

Today, I’m a mum of two teenagers one of whom is dyslexic. I understand how real the pressure of exams can feel and how it’s different for everyone!

A note to parents

This session is designed to gently support your child in understanding how their nervous system responds to pressure and to give them tools to feel calmer and more in control during exams.

Sessions cost £90 and are available:
📍 In person at The Practice Rooms in Hove or at your home
💻 Online via Zoom

My focus is on understanding the science and helping people feel safe, steady and better able to access what they already know.

It is not therapy, and I am not a therapist. I am a certified Havening Techniques practitioner, and I share this approach through training and group and individual sessions.

If you have questions, I’d be very happy to speak with you.

The challenges young people face are not unique to them; they are relevant to us all. Understanding our nervous system and its impact on our lives, health and relationships is a foundation for growth, resilience and transformation.
